Biography
Alexis Porcaro is an oboist, English horn player, and educator recognized for her versatility as an orchestral, chamber, and commercial musician. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Miami as a Henry Mancini Fellow and Oboe Teaching Assistant, Alexis has built a dynamic career performing across the United States with leading orchestras, opera companies, chamber ensembles, and touring productions.
Originally from New York, Alexis earned her Master of Music degree in Oboe Performance from Stony Brook and completed her undergraduate studies at SUNY Purchase on a talent-based scholarship. She also studied in the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School. Her principal teachers have included renowned oboists Robert Weiner, James Austin Smith, Kemp Jernigan, Randall Ellis, and Richard Dallessio.
Alexis has performed with numerous distinguished ensembles throughout the country, appearing with organizations including Miami City Ballet, Nu Deco Ensemble, New World Symphony, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, Palm Beach Opera, and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. She has served in principal positions with groups such as Florida Grand Opera, South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Regina Opera Company, City Lyric Opera, and The Sinfonietta of Riverdale.
In addition to her orchestral work, Alexis is an active crossover and commercial performer. She performed as principal oboe on the touring production of La La Land in Concert in Miami under the direction of Academy Award-winning composer and conductor Justin Hurwitz. Her career has also included collaborations with celebrated artists across multiple genres, including Lindsey Stirling, Pat Metheny, Ben Folds, and Will Lee.
Alexis has also performed alongside Broadway and television artists including Skylar Astin, Elizabeth Gillies, Brent Comer, Claybourne Elder, Taylor Louderman, and Joy Woods. Her broad musical experiences span classical, opera, film music, chamber music, Broadway, and contemporary commercial performance, allowing her to thrive in a wide variety of artistic settings.
Alongside her performing career, Alexis is deeply committed to music education and mentorship. At the Frost School of Music, she teaches reed making to undergraduate oboe students and provides private instruction to oboe minors. She also maintains an active private teaching studio, working with developing musicians of varying ages and levels. Previously, Alexis served as a teaching artist with the Miami Music Project, where she helped bring high-quality music education and mentorship to young students throughout the Miami community.
Alexis is also passionate about international musical collaboration and study. She studied in Vienna, Austria through the ISA Masterclass Summer Music Festival, where she participated in intensive masterclasses and performance opportunities with musicians from around the world. Her dedication to artistic and cultural exchange also led her to advance to the semi-final round of the prestigious Fulbright Program competition.
